There are many aspects to this hobby, one of which is collecting sand. Sand collecting is by no means a new hobby. People have been collecting for many years. Anyone can be a collector. All that is required is a keen interest in natural environments a some very basic equipment.
What is sand. Some would argue that sand are small particles of rock 1/16 and 2 mm in size. Sand is everywhere . You can collect from beaches, sand dunes, riverbanks and elsewhere. You can learn more about sand by viewing tiny grains under the microscope. Sand collecting can be a very interesting hobby. You can meet other other collectors and even trade samples. It very easy to amass a collection. If friends know you are a collector, they will bring you samples from far away places. There are even meetings for sand collectors. For those interested in becoming a sand collecter, a good way to start would be to join the International Sand Collectors Society.
