Answer to the previous Quiz:  Diamond is actually 3.5 times harder than Ruby and Sapphire.  Mohs Hardness Scale lists minerals in order of hardness.  Knoop hardness scale shows   Diamond 7000 HK (Knoop Hardness units) and Corundum (Ruby and Sapphire) only 2000 HK.  Which makes Diamond almost 4 times harder than Ruby and Sapphire.  Nevertheless, Ruby and Sapphire (Corundum) sand paper are perfect for polishing other minerals, since everything else is less hard than Ruby and Sapphire.

(The question was: Diamond is 10 on the Moth Hardness Scale.  Ruby and Sapphire are 9.  How many times is Diamond ACTUALLY harder than the Ruby and Sapphire?)

Quiz for today: Does a chemical element in the mineral’s chemical formula, or as an inclusion, give a mineral a specific colour?
